Yas - Junior Hair Stylist

Yas

“I come from a family of hairdressers and barbers. My grandad has a barber shop where my mum, her sister and all of my mums female friends worked. I was always working there in my time off from school, sweeping the floors and tidying up which lead me to rebel and I ended up with a successful career in recruiting but hair was always in the back of my mind. During lockdown I cut a friends hair for fun and it all clicked, this was my passion. I jumped in head first, left the corporate world and did an apprenticeship with Joe Mills the owner of Woolf.

I have excelled quickly in the last 3 years. I have qualified as both a barber and a hairdresser. I have won 3 awards, created a collection of hair cuts which have been published across numerous industry magazines and I’ve also spoken about my journey and what its like to be a ‘mature apprentice’ to inspire other people who are thinking about getting into this amazing industry.

My clients come to me because I believe in creating a haircut that is personal to that client. This is exampled especially in my creative cuts. Having curly hair myself I love to work with textured hair and advise on the best practices to keep it healthy. Taking care of curly hair doesn’t need to be complicated or seen as a chore. I specialise in scissor work and cuts with lots of movement. I love travel and am inspired by everything I see whilst I am exploring, this then naturally seeps into the haircuts I do here in London. ”
