Jamie - Lead Barber

Jamie

“I’ve been in the hair industry since 2010. Originally, I focused on hairdressing initially but then I decided to specialise in barbering around early 2017. I think initially I was inspired to be a barber because of the desire to have a skill-based career where I could be creative whist working in an exciting setting.

I love the challenge of solving the hair issues of whoever is in my chair and gaining their trust. The progression of having a new client become a regular client is an amazing feeling. I pride myself on really listening to what my clients want and maintaining consistency. Having worked in Soho for 6 years I’ve been exposed to a vast array of styles with high expectations set by my clients.

I see myself as a well-rounded barber, but if I had to choose a speciality it would be scissor work. Be it long or short hair work, I love the softness it creates whilst still building a strong, controlled shape. My signature haircut would have to be a grungy medium length hairstyle, with long broken layers that can be either tucked behind the ear or just loosely falling onto the face; really easy to look after and style whilst not needing to get it cut too frequently. A good reference would be most of Johnny Depp’s styles in the 90’s.

I enjoy making hair feel soft and textured. Whether that’s creating it on fine straight hair or enhancing curls/waves already in the hair. I think it’s so easy for clients to recreate this at home and it also gives the cut longevity. I would actually really like to cut Liam Gallaghers hair. His chat and stories would be wild, and his hair is iconic, so I’d enjoy having a go with my own take on it.

My go to hair product would have to be Kevin Murphy Sea Salt Spray and I use it on the majority of my clients. It’s really versatile for lots of different styles and hair types. I can also use it as a pre-styler or as a finishing product.

The best hair advice I could give to my clients is to develop a hair washing routine. I’ve had so many new clients unhappy with the condition of their hair, only to discover they clean their hair every day! Try to go as long as possible without cleansing your hair and as soon as it becomes too oily to style then that’s your limit. I really encourage people to not shampoo any more frequently that once every 2 days, the condition of your hair will improve dramatically.”
