Brewer Street recently saw the opening of a new Café cum store in place of the old Zilli restaurant site. Brought to us by Bill Collison - an entrepreneur who started off selling fruit from a stall at the side of the road – ‘Bills’ has several existing locations, including branches in Brighton, Reading and Wimbledon. The café also serves as a produce store, selling seasonal fruit and vegetables, jams, chutneys, oils and other tasty fare under the ‘Bill’s’ branding.
With an eclectic menu, Bill’s has a lot to offer; traditional British dishes such as fish pie, Fish finger sandwiches and mini Cumberland sausages or more exotic choices like Thai green curry, Crispy squid and crab spring rolls.
Highly recommended to us by Itch from the King blues as “the best breakfast” he’s ever had, we opted for “Bill’s Breakfast” which was a neatly arranged plate of sweet crisp bacon, eggs sunny side up, mushrooms, beans and toast. Not a drop of grease in sight, an absolutely delicious and somewhat posh version of a fry up.
It may be part of a chain and not as homespun as an independent Café but overall the premium breakfast left a good impression and we will be dropping by again very soon.
