Managing your hair colour in the times of Corona

We get it, you are stuck in-doors and your usual salon visits have had to take a back seat. It has been four weeks in lock down and your roots are starting to show, the grey is starting to creep back and your once vibrant hair colour has faded fast.

Why not just reach for a home hair colourant to get things looking as they were? What harm will it do until? We hear you! But there are some very good reasons why you should not to give in to temptation and succumb to the DIY hair colour option. We asked Head colourist Tiffany for help with navigating though any hair colour crisis you might be experiencing...

How can you reassure colour clients who are starting to have regrowth?

"The most reassuring advice I can give is that we’re all in this together and that everyone will be having the same struggles with regrowth and grown out haircuts. It’s never as obvious as we think it is! But just try to focus on that brand new sparkly feeling once you’re able to get your hair done with us again, it’ll be worth the wait! Now is a good time to start to put together some inspiration images together for your Summer look :)"

Any advice or styling tips on how they can manage their roots until their next appointment?

Avoid parting your hair in the centre if you’re struggling with your regrowth, it’s a good opportunity to try playing around with a new parting - a messy or zig-zag parting is the best disguise. Who knows, you might love it! There also loads of temporary root cover sprays or hair powders/mascaras you can get that will cover the re-growth until your next hair wash - these are fantastic to disguise roots so you really have no excuses!

Why would you not recommend clients colour their own hair at home with box dye?

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE avoid colouring your hair with a box dye from the pharmacy. Home hair colourants can be very difficult for hair colourists to remove (depending on the type that has been used) as they can be incompatible with our products. The other danger is that you may accidentally go darker/warmer than you intend and this will end up costing you extra time and money for us to fix if it doesn’t go to plan.
