"Joey is a regular salon client who has been having a balayage colour service with me for a few years now. She is a natural brunette who was now getting bored with her blonde hair and wanted a colour change just in time for the summer months. Getting back to her natural hair colour was the aim so colour matching would be critical.
To get the colour effect Joey was looking for, I recommeneded we did a root smudge (which basically drags colour from the start of the root downwards) matching as close to her natural colour as possible but with a bit more warmth. I also deliberately left out some lighter pieces through the ends to create depth and texture. We wanted to keep the colour looking as natural as possible and we were keen to avoid a block, flat colour which would look less natural.
After the haircut, I used Davines OI Milk spray for heat protection and exceptional moisture as well as Kevin Murphy HAIR.RESORT spray throughout her dry hair whilst blasting the hair with the hair dryer to mess it up.
I was conscious that the blonde underneath would eventually start creeping back after a few washes so I suggested we can take the brown colour back through gradually and play around with tones on the ends to vary the colour but still keep it as natural as possible."
