The salon environment is light, contemporary, uncluttered and functional; an airy reception and hair cutting area upstairs and a dedicated hair colour space in the basement housing a colour bar, which services both stylists and clients.
The Lounge Soho also does its very best to be a model of environmental responsibility for London hair salons. Wherever possible, we use energy efficient light bulbs, minimise our energy consumption and recycle both paper and all the glass bottles we use in the salon.
Our Innovative London Hair Salon - History & Concept
Joe Mills' concept for his boutique hair salon was born in the late nineties, when he realised there was a real need for a London hairdressers that offered an alternative to the more ‘traditional’ hair salons in London's West End. Joe's vision centred on wanting to help clients feel comfortable and well looked after in a hair salon with a homelike environment; hence our name 'The Lounge Soho'.
The fashionable décor, the curated art on the ceiling at the backwash, the extras like freshly made coffee, complimentary beer and wine, Play Stations and decent music were unique in the hairdressing world at the time. The sum of this thought and effort was a creative, unisex, London hairdressers with an unpretentious and laid back vibe; this new London hair salon that was an immediate hit, with publications such as Vogue praising the fresh concept of a 'home-like' best London hairdressers.
On the back of its great popularity, The Lounge Soho started hosting parties in venues around the West End and across London. That, and the addition of a dedicated magazine, helped develop a large and loyal following of clients from the club scene, including a group of leading DJ's and celebrities.
Joe Mills' relaxed but professional attitude, his dedication to thinking ahead, his ability to challenge tradition and set new trends for London hair salons has enabled our London salon to remain both unpretentious and a firm favourite with its busy clientèle from Soho, and much further afield in London and beyond.
